IvyQuest's Story
Micki Kaplan McMillan brings twenty-plus years experience teaching in small, elite independent schools such as Blair Academy, ranked by Business Insider as one of the top 25 Most Elite Boarding Schools in America.
Over her extensive career, Micki has taught every grade level and discipline of secondary English, including AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition, SAT prep, and "Write Yourself Right", her flagship college essay writing course. Additionally, she established and then coached Blair Academy Speech and Debate to a trophy-case full of accolades and has directed over thirty-five main stage high school theater productions.
IvyQuest’s number one value is achievement. “Do what you have to do so you can do what you want to do,” Micki cheers. She, like their parents, wants her high school students to feel confident in their ability to advocate for what they want in life through their voice and writings. This becomes especially important in the college application process.
Primarily teaching juniors and seniors in the second half of her career, Micki has helped hundreds of students write successful college essays, prepare for interviews, narrow down appropriate and well-suited colleges, cultivate and polish portfolios and auditions for performing arts students, prepare for SAT and AP exams, and comprehensively provide guidance and support tailored to each student’s individual needs.
Her students have gone on to study at colleges and universities such as: Stanford University, Cornell University, Brown University, Rutgers University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, University of Pennsylvania, and Brandeis University, to name just a few. Micki has an AB in English from small, private, liberal arts powerhouse Lafayette College and an MA in English from U.S. World and News ranked #9 in the country Middlebury College. She is a NJ State Certified Teacher of English and Speech Communications in Drama.
Micki is currently enrolled in UC Irvine's program in Independent Educational Consulting, the gold standard in the industry. She expects to complete her certificate in the spring of 2023.
